Wildcats pick up two victories

Girls basketball

     Ella Imler scored 26 points, as the Wildcats (record) scored a 53-38 home win over Bellevue Marquette Dec. 10 in Delhi. Imler shot 8-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-7 from three-point range. She also had five rebounds and five assists. Taya Tucker scored 13 points and had five rebounds. Brooke Elgin had seven rebounds, and Carissa Sabers had five.

     The Wildcats (3-0, 6-0) scored another victory Dec. 13 against Cedar Valley Christian, winning 58-15 in a game played in Springville.

     “I was very pleased with how our kids came out ready to play,” Maquoketa Valley coach Scot Moenck said. “Our energy on defense is what I was most pleased with.”

     The ‘Cats had plenty of offense as well, led by Imler, who scored 20 points, to go along with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Tucker had 18 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and four assists.

    

Boys basketball

     Maquoketa Valley had a big second quarter and a big fourth quarter, outscoring Bellevue Marquette 17-6 in each, on the way to a 51-35 win Dec. 10 in Delhi.

     A.J. Ambundo scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Wildcats (1-2), and Andrew Holtz had 12 points and six rebounds. Owen Mensen added nine points. The Wildcats led 25-16 at halftime.
