Wildcats play eight games

Softball

     The busy Maquoketa Valley softball team played eight games in recent action, winning two of them.

     The Wildcats (9-13, 11-24) played a doubleheader at Lisbon June 18, and lost by scores of 13-0 in four innings and 15-5 in five. MV was held to two hits in the first game, including a double by Taya Tucker and a single by Peyton Ries.

     In the second game, the teams were tied 5-5 until Lisbon scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the game open. Maquoketa Valley had seven hits. Tucker was 2-for-2 with a double and a stolen base. Macy Hoeger went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Olivia Hoeger hit a triple. Adrianne Supple and Ries both hit doubles; Ries drove in two runs.

     On June 25, the Wildcats played a doubleheader at Bellevue Marquette, and won both games by scores of 4-2 and 9-3. Allie Knipper pitched 6 1/3 innings in the first game to get the win, allowing six hits and striking out three. Rylie Aldrich recorded the final two outs to get a save. Maddie Lahr was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Macy Hoeger was 2-for-4 with a double. Tucker also doubled.

     MV scored six runs over the first three innings to take control of the second game. Tucker hit a home run and drove in four runs. Getting two hits apiece were Maddy Anderegg, Cassie Westhoff, Tucker, Ries and Lahr. Aldrich pitched all seven innings for the win.

     At Central City June 27, MV lost 12-0 in four innings and 8-1. Maquoketa Valley was held to one hit in the first game. In the second game, Lahr went 2-for-3.

     The Wildcats then played host to Calamus-Wheatland June 28, and lost 15-3 and 19-4, the latter in three innings. MV did have 13 hits in the first game; Olivia Hoeger and Anderegg both went 3-for-4, while Adrianne Supple and Macy Hoeger had two hits apiece. Olivia Hoeger had two doubles and two RBIs.

     Macy Hoeger had two of the Wildcats’ six hits in the second game.

    

Baseball

     Maquoketa Valley traveled to Bellevue to play Marquette Catholic in a doubleheader June 25, and split the two games, losing 12-7 and winning 4-2. MV had 11 hits in the first game. Trent Koopmann went 2-for-3, while Brock Hillers and Norm Wilson both were 2-for-4. Heath Gibbs knocked in two runs. Wilson was the starter and losing pitcher.

     A three-run third inning put the Wildcats ahead 3-2 in the second game, and they added an insurance run in the fifth. Tyson Tucker pitched 6 2/3 innings to get the win, allowing five hits and striking out 12. Hillers recorded the last out to get a save. Tucker also batted 2-for-3 with a double. Hillers stole two bases for MV (10-10, 11-12).
