Wildcats run in Anamosa invite

MAQUOKETA VALLEY RECAP

Cross country

   The Maquoketa Valley boys cross country team finished ninth in the Anamosa Invitational Sept. 24.

   Matthew Schaul led the team, taking 14th in 18:01. George Livingston was 24th in 18:29, Arion Rave 33rd in 18:47, Toby Grimm 83rd in 21:09, Kenyon Baker 85th in 21:11, and Brady Eike 94th in 22:07.

   The MV girls did not have a complete team. Taryn Burbridge finished ninth in 21:07, Isabel Imler was 44th in 23:49.

 

Football

   East Buchanan broke a 12-12 halftime tie with 20 unanswered points in the third quarter, and defeated Maquoketa Valley 48-12 in a Class A, District 4 football game Sept. 23 in Winthrop.

   Highlights for MV (2-1, 3-2) included 90 passing yards for T.J. Cook, 76 rushing yards for Lance McShane, and a touchdown catch by Carter Klaren.

   Defensively, Aidan Salow made 7.5 talked, and Dylan Knipper had seven.

 

Volleyball

   Maquoketa Valley faced a pair of tough Tri-Rivers Conference opponents in volleyball action last week.

   The Wildcats (5-15) played host to top-ranked Springville Sept. 20, and lost by scores of 4-25, 22-25, 17-25. MV totaled 19 kills, led by Grace Richter with six, Haley Ronnebaum with five, Bianka Ronnebaum with four, and Lanni Beaman with three. Keira Leytem and Kennedy Rausch each had eight assists. Defensively, Haley Ronnebaum had four blocks. Lili Bauer had seven digs, Beaman had six and Jada Knipper had five.

   MV then lost a heartbreaker at Edgewood-Colesburg Sept. 22. The Wildcats lost the first two sets 16-25, 21-25; rallied to win the next two 27-25, 25-13; but lost the deciding set 7-15.

   Leytem put up 43 assist in the match. Haley Ronnebaum had 11 kills, while Leah Reicher and Richter each had nine. Bauers had 33 of the team’s 99 digs. Knipper had19 digs, Bianka Ronnebaum had 15 and Leytem had 10. Leytem also served three aces.
