Wildcats run at West Delaware

     Maquoketa Valley finished ninth of 19 teams at the West Delaware Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Hart Ridge Golf Course in Manchester.

     Mount Vernon/Lisbon was the team champion with 52 points, Tipton finished second with 78, and Waverly-Shell Rock was third with 80. Maquoketa Valley totaled 226 points.

     Chance Downs led the Wildcats, taking 17th place in 17:49. Brenden Hogan was 24th in 18:13, Mason Lubben 50th in 19:00, Derek Mensen 68th in 19:25, Tate Trenkamp 72nd in 19:30, and Jon Seibert 89th in 20:23.



     A pair of heartbreaking losses dropped the Maquoketa Valley volleyball team’s records to 4-1 in Tri-Rivers Conference West Division play and 10-12 overall.

     The Wildcats played host to East Buchanan Oct. 3, and lost 24-26, 14-25, 25-12, 23-25. Maci Freiburger had 11 kills, 15 digs and served 11-for-11. Payton Ries had nine kills, four blocks and served 23-for-23 with two aces. Abby Holtz made 18 assists, and served 15-for-16 with two aces. Macy Hoeger had 19 blocks, Emerson Whittenbaugh and Holtz had 11 apiece, and Madison Imler had 10. Maddy Anderegg served 11-for-11 with two aces. Whittenbaugh served four aces.

     On Oct. 5, the Wildcats played at Cedar Valley Christian, a non-division opponent, and lost in five sets, 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 9-15. MV had 52 kills, led by Ries with 16, Whittenbaugh with 12 and Macy Hoeger with 11. Holtz had 23 assists, while Anderegg had 11. Macy Hoeger and Whittenbaugh had 18 digs apiece; Holtz and Ries had 12 each. Holtz served 20-for-20. Ries had four aces, Freiburger and Whittenbaugh had three apiece, and Anderegg had two.
