Girls basketball

     Maquoketa Valley jumped to a 9-0 first quarter lead, but was outscored 32-12 in the middle two quarters and suffered 39-31 loss to Denver in the Class 2A, Region 4 girls basketball quarterfinals Feb. 18 in Delhi.

     The loss ended the season for the Wildcats, who were 17-5 overall, including 10-4 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

     Taya Tucker led MV with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, along with three steals. Brooke Elgin had 10 points and six rebounds. Kylie Chesnut had six rebounds, and Ella Imler had four points, four rebounds and three assists.

 

Boys basketball

     Maquoketa Valley’s season came to an end Feb. 20 with a 51-49 boys basketball loss to Clinton Prince of Peace in a Class 1A, District 5 quarterfinal game Feb. 20 in Delhi.

     The Wildcats fell despite three players scoring in double figures. Andrew Holtz had 14 points, Owen Mensen added 12, and A.J. Ambundo contributed 10 points. Avery Holtz also had eight points, and Mitch Heims scored five.

     Miguel Bojorquez led the team in rebounds with five. Andrew Holtz and Avery Holtz had five assists apiece. Mensen made three steals.

     The Wildcats finished the season with a record of 9-13, including a 6-8 mark in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
