Wildcats take Tri-Rivers championship

Girls track

     With a dominant performance that included four individual conference titles, the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats won the Tri-Rivers Conference girls track and field championship during the TRC meet Thursday, May 4 in Delhi.

     The Wildcats scored 133.25 points, beating runner-up North Linn by 27 and third place finisher Bellevue Marquette by 40.

     Conference champions for MV included Kara Orcutt in both the 100 hurdles (16.78) and 400 hurdles (1:11.26); Ali Sheehy in the discus, 114-foot-2; and the 4x200 relay team, 1:49.23.

     Finishing second in the meet for the Wildcats were Sam Wall in the 200, 26.63; the shuttle hurdle relay, 1:12.16 and the 4x400 relay, 4:16.59.

     In third were Lydia Helle in the discus, 96-2; Aspen Britt in the 400, 1:03.21; the sprint medley relay team, 1:54.12; the 4x800 relay, 11:20.01; the distance medley relay, 4:43.76; and the 4x100 relay, 53.52.

     The Wildcats will compete in the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet Thursday, May 11, 4 p.m. in Central City.

 

Boys track

     Maquoketa Valley had five top-three finishes, on the way to a fourth place finish in the Tri-Rivers Conference Boys Track and Field Meet, which the Wildcats hosted Thursday, May 4.

     The Wildcats scored 87 points, just three behind third place finisher Calamus-Wheatland. Lisbon was the team champion with 191, followed by North Linn with 121. Twelve teams competed in all.

     Getting second place finishes were Derek Becker in the 400, 54.96; Brock Hillers in the 110 hurdles, 16.20; the shuttle hurdle relay, 1:04.03; the distance medley relay, 3:45.37;

     In third was the 4x800 relay.

     The Wildcats will compete in the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet Thursday, May 11, 4 p.m. in Central City.

 

Golf

     Maquoketa Valley shot 242 to take 12th place in the Tri-Rivers Conference Boys Golf Meet Tuesday, May 2 in Bellevue.

     East Buchanan was the team conference champion with a score of 164, winning by 23 strokes over runner-up Easton Valley.

     Patrick Hansen led the Wildcats with a 58, followed by Jon Seibert with 59. Derek Mensen shot a 62, Austin Snyder had 63, Matthew Hucker had 69, and Morgan Hermanson scored 75.

     Chris Cooksley of East Buchanan was the individual TRC champion with a 38.

     “Although we did not shoot as well as we would have liked overall, we still had three out of the six guys get a PR (personal record),” Maquoketa Valley coach Tim Andrews said. “Hopefully with this nice week of practice we can have everyone PR at the very tough sectional meet at Clayton Ridge.”

     That meet will be Friday, May 12 in Guttenburg.
