Wildcats travel to Fearing Relays

Boys track

     Maquoketa Valley competed in the Fearing Relays April 4 in Anamosa, and finished in 15th place with three points.

     The Wildcats’ highest finish came from Zak Harbach, who was sixth in the 400. He also took 10th place out of 58 runners in the 100.

    

Golf

     The Wildcats traveled to Buffalo Creek in Winthrop to play East Buchanan April 4. The MV girls lost 213 to 233. Kelly Winter led the Wildcats with a 53, taking second place overall, six strokes behind EB medalist Becca Walthart. Faith Hunt shot a 57, Madison McIntyre had 64 and Maddie Lahr scored a 65.

     Three Wildcats played in the boys’ meet, so they did not qualify for a team score. Jon Seibert carded at 54, Austin Snyder shot 64 and Derek Mensen had 79.

     “Overall I was happy with how we performed,” Maquoketa Valley coach Tim Andrews said, “and look forward to seeing our scores go down with more practice and better weather.”

     MV then faced Edgewood-Colesburg in a girls’ dual meet April 7 at Lone Pine in Colesburg, and won 226 to 259. Winter led the Wildcats with a 54 to be meet medalist. Megan McNamara was second with a 55, and McIntyre finished third with a 57. Kelsey Ries shot a 60 to be fourth overall.

     “I was very impressed with how the girls competed from the very beginning,” Andrews said.

     On Saturday, April 8, the Wildcats competed in the Viking Invitational boys’ meet, hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg, at Lone Pine in Colesburg.

     MV had two boys compete; Seibert placed 25th overall with a 106, and Snyder was 28th with a 109.

     “It was a very windy day, and Jon and Austin were able to fight through it,” the coach said.
