Wildcats win at MFL for fifth straight year

Cross country

     For the fifth straight year, the Maquoketa Valley boys cross country team is champion of the MFL MarMac Invitational.

     The Wildcats took the top two individual spots, and three of the top five, on the way to totaling 37 points and winning the meet. North Fayette Valley was second with 43; Clayton Ridge took third with 97.

     Nolan Ries was the individual champion, finishing in 17 minutes, 20.5 seconds. Teammate Cy Huber was second in 17:31.7, followed by Michael Schaul, fifth in 18:18.0; Arion Rave, 13th in 19:31.5; and Matthew Schaul, 16th in 19:45.2.

     Maquoketa Valley’s girls were fifth in their race, totaling 101 points. Central of Elkader was the team champion with 39.

     Isabel Imler led the Wildcats, finishing 13th overall in 24:00.6. Emma Doyl was 14th in 24:30.7; McKenna Bush 21st in 27:28.3; Jordan Hogan 26thin 29:38.9; and Allison Hogan 27th in 30:28.0.

 

Volleyball

     Maquoketa Valley played host to Cedar Valley Christian in a Tri-Rivers Conference match Sept. 2, and won in four sets, with scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19.

     The Wildcats (1-0, 2-1) were led offensively by Kylie Chesnut, who had 13 kills, along with Carissa Sabers and Haley Ronnebaum, who had eight kills each. Kennedy Rausch had 16 assists, and Keira Leytem had 12.

     Chesnut also had three blocks and three aces. Leading the team in digs were Lily Huber with 10, Avery Krapfl and McKenna Thompson with nine apiece, Sabers with eight, and Leah Ries with seven.
