For the second time, Monticello High School boys track and field coach Greg Williams has been nominated as a National Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year finalist by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA).

Williams, who has coached the Panthers for 25 seasons and helped lead them to four state championships and 15 top-five finishes at state, is one of eight coaches nominated nationwide.

“It is quite an honor to be nominated again,” Williams said. “It is very humbling to be in the company of the best track and field coaches in the United States.”

The national coach of the year in 20 sports will be selected during the NHSACA Convention June 22-27 in Bismarck, N.D. The convention banquet is set for June 27.

Williams, who was also a finalist in 2016, said much of the credit goes to his longtime assistant coach, Donnie Kremer.

“It is definitely something that I owe a lot to Donnie for,” Williams said. “He is a huge part of our success.”

Track and field coaches from across the nation will participate in meetings and presentations during the convention.
