Winning season is celebrated
Monticello’s 14-9 season, which included an 11-6 mark in the River Valley Conference, was celebrated during the Panther girls basketball team’s annual awards event Friday, April 21 in the Monticello High School Commons.
Panther coach Donnie Kremer praised the team’s effort during the season.
“These girls fought each and every day,” he said. “We had a lot of injuries early on, but we battled through it.”
Junior Lauren Ries was responsible for three school records during the season: most points in a game, 34; and most three-point baskets made in a game, seven – both against Durant. Ries also set the school record for three-pointers in a season, with 48.
The team posted a 3.84 cumulative grade-point average, as 14 members of the team earned academic all-conference honors.
