Wrestlers receive season awards

     The Monticello High School wrestling season for 2016-17 was reviewed and celebrated during the team’s annual awards banquet April 14 at the Citizens State Bank Youth Development Center.

     Among those honored were sophomore Chase Luensman, who was sectional and district champion before placing fifth in the State Class 2A Wrestling tournament, finishing with a 30-5 record.

     Several individual awards were presented, as listed below.

 

TEAM AWARDS

     Most Valuable: Chase Luensman, sophomore.

     Academic MVP: Chase Luensman, 4.0 grade-point average.

     Academic MVP Runner-up: Noel Halder, 3.7 grade-point average.

     Rookie of the Year: Alaina Sunlin, freshman.

     Most Improved: Gavin Holub, junior; and Tyler Kuper, junior.

     Coaches Awards: Andrew Wall, junior; and Lake Stahlberg, sophomore.

     Most Takedowns: Chase Luensman.

     Most Falls: Alaina Sunlin.

     JV Conference Champions: Travis Heinrich, freshman; and Mason Reuter, freshman.
