100 years ago:

     • The people about Monticello have been favored beyond those of some other communities in the ability to secure sugar. Last week the Farmers’ Co-operative Creamery Co. secured a shipment of two carloads of cane sugar which it sold out in 100 pound sacks at 28-1/2 cents a pound. The housewives who have been wondering how they were going to get their canning done with sugar sold in limited quantities, are now ready to proceed. The price is beyond what it would have cost by twice had the government taken over the Cuban crop at the low figure at which it could have been secured, before the speculators and profiteers pick it up. (6/24/1920)

     • The Hila Morgan Stock Company set up its tent theatre in Monticello last Monday. This is the fifth season that the show has made this town. Miss Morgan presents a repertoire of first class popular plays, which are meeting with favor by the theatre going public of Monticello. (6/17/1920)
