     • Edinburgh Manor, the former county home, will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Ghost Adventures” on the Travel Channel. A number of ghost hunting groups have toured Edinburgh since the county sold the facility in 2011. (8/5/2015)

10 years ago:

     • Junior A.J. Reuter and senior Logan Felton were voted to the Iowa Newspaper Association Class 2A All-State Baseball Teams. Reuter made the first team, and Felton was named to the third team. They are the first Monticello players to be voted all-state since 1992. (8/4/2010)

25 years ago:

     • Though reports of tornadoes are conflicting, a severe thunderstorm packing winds estimated at up to 100 miles per hour ripped through Monticello and northwestern Jones County on Thursday, causing tremendous damage. The north end of Monticello was hit hardest. Three houses were destroyed or sustained serious damage; one on North Maple and one each on North and South Cedar Streets. Downed trees blocked streets and power lines were down. Power was restored to all electrical customers by noon on Saturday. (8/2/1995)

50 years ago:

     • Tom Hughes, late model modified racer, raced his new rebuilt Torino for the first time at Lancaster, Wis., Saturday night. He won the third heat and placed fifth in the feature. The car features a 427 Ford motor. (8/6/1970)

100 years ago:

     • This is the month of the Jones county fair. It will be in session August 24 to 27. Almost everybody has something that they deem a bit better than anything of the same kind that anyone else has. Show it at the fair. The Jones county fair never failed to pay its premiums in full. (8/5/1920)

     • We were favored with a fine rain, yesterday afternoon, which was welcomed by the farmers who were beginning to claim its need for the pastures, cornfields and potato patches. It had been nearly three weeks since a shower of any note. (8/5/1920)
