     • Monticello voters retained an incumbent and voted in a new city council member during the Nov. 3 City Elections. Ward 3 incumbent Chris Lux will remain in office. Brian Wolken was newly elected as council member at-large.  (11/11/2015)

10 years ago:

     • On Nov. 1 the Jones County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that there was heavy black smoke coming from McOtto’s Restaurant in Anamosa. Anamosa Fire Department was assisted by the Monticello Fire Department. The building is a total loss.  (11/10/2010)

     • Members of the Monticello High School competition cheer stunt group placed second at the Iowa High School Cheerleading Championships Nov. 6 in Des Moines. This was Monticello’s first performance at the championships since 2006. Team members are Dawn Ehlers, Devin Darrow, Andrea Davis, Haley Moore, Brittney Ehlers and manager Lauren Barker.  (11/10/2010)

     • Despite the ongoing battle to determine who will be the next President of the United States, in our area, we have definite winners. The presidential race in Jones County was close as 51 percent of voters cast their ballots for the Gore/Leiberman ticket while 45 percent of voters voted for the Bush/Cheney ticket. The county reported 9,226 voters in the presidential race. (11/15/2000)

50 years ago

     • The Rev. Harold Naig of Iola, Wis. will become pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran church, Monticello, Dec. 1. He will be installed in a special service Sunday, Dec. 6. A potluck dinner will be held at noon. Area pastors will be special guests. Rev. Naig replaces the Rev. Anton Kirkegaard, who accepted a call to Inwood, Iowa. (11/12/1970)

100 years ago:

     • Out of respect to Armistice Day, and what its anniversary represents, the business houses of Monticello are closed this afternoon. There are no parades, no celebration and no exercises in commemoration of the event. In the evening, however, the local post of the American Legion will stage several bouts of boxing to recall the events that used to put spice in army life. They assure us that there will be some clever dings in the manly art of self defense. (11/11/1920)

     • A new C.M & St. Paul train makes connections at Oxford Junction for Chicago. It is now possible for Monticello people to leave on the 9:05 train, which reaches Oxford Junction at 9:55, and make connections with the Pacific Limited, which reaches Oxford Junction at 10:15, and reaches Chicago at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
