
The Maquoketa River flooded into Walnut Acres Campground late last week. Owners Chip and Kim Smith notified campers on Thursday afternoon, May 30, of possible flooding and had the campers relocate to higher ground. Mon Maq Dam looked quite different on Thursday, May 30, after over a week of heavy rains. Many local people came out to the dam on May 30 to see the damage as tree limbs, tree trunks, several boat docks and dozens of barrels filled with toxic chemicals lined the dam. Brian Hahn was hired as the new Monticello Ambulance Service Director. Hahn was a volunteer for the Monticello service in 2010, so he’s familiar with the area. After just two weeks on the job, Hahn is looking forward to serving the Monticello community.
