About a month ago, a new owner reopened the Prairie Moon Bar & Grill in Prairieburg and brought the once-vacant location back to life. On July 20, Joan Kraus, who is originally from Monticello, purchased the bar and grill and opened for business on Aug. 16.

“I owned a bar in Center Point for five years,” said Kraus who definitely has experience in the business. “I wanted to move back home and be closer to family.”

The Prairie Moon Bar & Grill closed for business in June of 2011. Kraus’ brother heard it was for sale and she put a bid on the place. She said when she purchased the bar, all that it needed was some cleaning. All of the furniture and interior furnishings were still there, waiting to be used once again.

“It was all ready to go,” Kraus said. All she needed to do was purchase and install a new compressor in the walk-in freezer.

Not wanting to change the atmosphere of the bar and grill, Kraus still offers a full bar, food menu and daily specials. The menu includes fried and grilled items, and also broasted chicken, something new! She is still contemplating bringing back the Friday night fish fries.

“The town has been very supportive,” said Kraus of her coming in and reopening a hot spot in Prairieburg. With the tractor pull a couple of weeks ago, Kraus said she had a steady stream of people coming in and out all weekend. With farmers in the fields, she is also seeing many of them stop in for lunch as well.

Kraus is starting Euchre tournaments every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Prairie Moon Bar & Grill is now open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to close. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
