Leslie John Hageman of Humboldt, Iowa formerly of Milton, Fla. and Hopkinton, Iowa passed away on Sept. 13, 2012 in his home surround by his family.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the Hopkinton Community Church where friends may call after 9:30. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton is in charge of the arrangements. Leslie (Johnny) was born and raised in Hopkinton Iowa and is the son of Clarence and Ella (Tibbits) Hageman. He attended school in Hopkinton, Iowa. He entered the Army, inducted in Waterloo Iowa. John then spent 3 years during the Korean Conflict and was awarded a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts for injuries suffered during his time of service. After honorable discharge from the service he returned to Hopkinton, Iowa. In April 1955 he married Julia Mae Kirby, they made there home in Humboldt, Ia., where Johnny was employed with P&M Stone, blacktop and construction. To this union 5 children were born. Steve, Sheryl, John, Karen and Kenneth. This marriage ultimately dissolved.
John later married Shirley Babcock and they made their home in Milton, Fla. After moving to Florida Johnny worked for Beard Equipment, a John Deere dealer until his retirement. Then after retirement he worked part-time for Edwards Electric building high rise condominiums on Pensacola Beach with Lori and Alan. Shirley passed away in 2011. Shirley’s children include Denny (Pam) Babcock, Allen (Cindy) Babcock, Lori Hill and Roxanne Hurley, all of Milton, Fla. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren. For hobbies he loved mechanics, mowing, and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Surviving are 4 children, Sheryl (Richard) Shekey of Humboldt, Iowa, John Hageman of Lytton, Iowa, Karen (Loren) Burbach of Sac City, Iowa and Kenneth Hageman of Woodward Iowa. He has 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and his sister Betty Wilson of Hopkinton. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Steven, his wife, a sister Rhoda Hughes and a brother Ralph.
