Eldon Steger age 85, died peacefully Tuesday evening, Oct. 23, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday morning, Oct. 26, 2012 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where friends called from 4 until 8 Thursday. Rev. Fr. Keith Birch officiated at the services. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors.
Eldon Henry Steger was born May 17, 1927 at Hopkinton, Iowa. He was the son of Cornelius and Irma Uhlenkamp, Steger. Eldon received his education in the rural schools near Cascade. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Eldon returned from service and worked at a quarry near Cascade before taking a job at the Huibregtse Feed Mill in Monticello. Eldon and JoAnn Robinson were married on Jan. 9, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Eldon started working at Energy Manufacturing in 1952 and retired from there in 1989. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed going fishing.
Surviving are his wife, JoAnn, his son Dennis (Chris) Steger, Monticello, three grandchildren, Robynn Evans and Kimberly (Jamie) Kremer, both of Monticello, Colter Steger, Cedar Rapids, five great-granddaughters, Reese and Riley Evans and Paige, Lauren and Kelsey Kremer, a sister, Margie (Don) DeShaw, Milaca, Minn., two brothers, Harold (Mary Jane) Steger, Elkader, and Walter Steger, Delhi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Denise Kay, and a brother.
