Edward J. Folken, 92, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a short illness.
A celebration of life service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, where there was a visitation from 5:30 p.m. until service time. Iowa Cremation was in charge of arrangements.
Ed was born Jan. 24, 1920 in Jones County, Iowa, the son of John and Margaret Albers Folken. He married Rosemary L. Newhard on Aug. 30, 1955 in Vilmar, Iowa. Ed farmed in the Jones County area and worked at Century Engineering as a welder. He retired in 1985, after 15 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, and proudly served in the Navy during WWII.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, travel and especially the time he spent with his friends and beloved family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; four sons: Denny (Lisa) of Monticello, Don (Judy) of Dubuque, Gary of Monticello and Dave (Choi) of Indian Trail, N.C.; a daughter, Vicki Wacker of Anamosa; two sisters, Deloris Ihlenfelt and Marilyn Schmidt, both of Anamosa; and one brother, Louis (Beulah), also of Anamosa; 11 grandchildren: Cade, Paige, Kyle, Cole, Andrew, Jessie, Joey (Heather), John, Ed, Kelly (Jeremiah), and Kris (Brittany); and seven great- grandchildren: Natilie, Jeremy, J.D., Hailey, John John, Jack and Kate.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Henry and Don.
