Big names help put Monti on the map

Keith Urban. Little Big Town. Aaron Thomas (son of the late Aplington-Parkersburg football coach Ed Thomas). Dan Gable.

Let’s play a gameā€¦ what do all of these big-name people have in common?

They are all coming to Monticello!

We have the Great Jones County Fair’s first country music acts of the season. Three performers in one night of incredible music: Urban, Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch. As if one of those names wasn’t enough, all three will take to the stage on Saturday night during fair week.

The fair is no stranger to hit-makers. Last year we heard from Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Heart and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The good times just keep coming!

Ignite, the Jones County young professional group, has been instrumental in bringing motivational and professional development speakers to the area. Mitch Matthews spoke on dreaming big. Ted Garnett spoke on management and leadership skills in a changing world. Ignite held a first-time homebuyers workshop. And now Aaron Thomas is coming to Monticello High School to speak about overcoming obstacles in life and the legacy his father left.

In the past, the Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce has brought in comics from the Midwest to entertain guests at the annual banquet in January. This year, legendary wrestling coach Dan Gable is the headliner. Adults and kids alike will want to hear Gable’s talk on working hard and achieving your goals.

It says something about the organizations in this town when you hear the names of so many big stars associated with Monticello. These are great opportunities you will not want to miss out on! (K.N.B.)
