Maldean D. Mueller, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids with family by her side following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Wayne Zion Cemetery. Pastor Ellery Dykeman officiated at the services. Friends called from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Maldean Clarice Dirks was born April 2, 1930 in Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Carl and Hattie Folkers, Dirks. Maldean graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1948 from the Monticello Community Schools. She then worked as a bookkeeper, assistant e ditor of the Anamosa Eureka and Service Representative for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Maldean Dirks married Dale Mueller on June 23, 1956 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple farmed in the Grand Mound area until 1963, when they moved to a family farm in Wayne Township near Monticello.
Maldean was a life-long member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She served as a youth leader and on various committees. She was baptized on April 27, 1930 and confirmed her faith on March 25, 1943.
Maldean is survived by a son, Marlon (Nancy), West Des Moines; a daughter, Mareda Pierce, Monticello; three grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Mueller and Joshua Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a grandson, David Michael Mueller; and a sister, Murva Dirks.
