After the success of the Monticello Wedding Expo last year, Michael’s Clothing owners Mike and Carol Jacobs have decided to take it on yet again.

“The numbers last year showed me that there was an interest in our area,” said Mike Jacobs. With about 15 area vendors at last year’s expo and roughly 20 brides, Jacobs said the number and variety of vendors for this year’s expo has certainly grown. Brides can expect to visit with over 20 vendors this year.

“This expo fills a need and a void in the area for brides and those interested in getting married locally,” expressed Jacobs. Monticello and Jones County have so much to offer a bridal couple to make their special day even better.

From reception halls to tuxedo rentals, jewelry (rings), flowers and more, Monticello is like your one-stop-shop for your wedding needs.

“I’ve gotten a tremendous response from vendors for this year,” said Jacobs. Aside from local wedding vendors, you can expect see booths from vendors outside the area (Marion and Dyersville).

After co-planning the wedding expo last year, Jacobs said he had an idea what to expect when organizing it again this year.

“The second time around makes it a bit easier,” he said. “The vendors all have some experience and wanted to come back.”

The biggest goal for Jacobs and those involved in the wedding expo is getting the word out to area brides. He said you can plan and plan and plan, but if no one comes, it’s not a success.

“It’s hard to know what attracts brides to shows like this,” he said.

When coming to the expo, each bride can look forward to receiving a door prize. No one gets left out.

“Every bride leaves with a prize,” Jacobs said.

Also, many of the vendors will also be giving individual door prizes away throughout the afternoon.

“It looks to be an exciting opportunity for everyone involved,” expressed Jacobs.

In the near future, Michael’s Clothing hopes to expand the wedding expo to a larger facility with up to 50 vendors if not more.

“I want to try to grow it each year,” said Jacobs. “As more people become aware of the event and the services we have here locally, the more people we can help.”

The 2013 Wedding Expo will take place this Sunday, Feb. 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Monticello Eagles Club. The event is free. For more information, contact Michael’s Clothing at 319-465-5574.
