Larry D. “Bud” Bartels, age 66, passed away Feb. 22, 2013 at his home. 

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at Behr Funeral Home. To celebrate Larry’s life, friends visited from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Larry was born Feb. 8, 1947 in Monticello, the son of Herman and Florence (Moncrief) Bartels.

Larry attended school in Monticello. He began working as an auto body man in Monticello and continued his profession for the last 45 years, working at Valentine Brothers for 17 years and most recently for Leslein’s Auto Ranch.

He married Joyce Knockel on Jan. 18, 1966. Together they had a son, Roger.  Joyce preceded him in death. Larry later married Sherry South in 1968. Together they had Paula and Christine. Larry married Cathy King on Sept. 15, 1973, in Dubuque. Together they had Dawn and Trudy.  Larry enjoyed being around cars and watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart, Jr.  He also enjoyed old Western movies.

Surviving is his wife, Cathy Bartels, Dubuque; his children,

Paula (Manuel) Ruiz, Newton, Christine (friend Travis Bowers) Pullin, Independence, Trudy Bartels; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; his siblings, Mary Lou (Frank) Thompson, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Paul (Liz) Bartels, Monticello, Karen (Francis) Frommelt, Dubuque; his former wife, Sherry Bieglow, Hazleton.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce Knockel-Bartels; a son, Roger Bartels; and a daughter, Dawn Bartels; a sister, Shirley (John) Russ; a brother and sister in infancy, Herman and Harriet; two brothers-in-law, Don Dondelinger and Larry Klein; and a nephew, Kim Bartels.

A Larry D. Bartels memorial fund has been established.
