In just four years here, I have seen some great community projects come to fruition. To name a few: the new permanent stage at the fairgrounds, the addition to the airport, the new Kirkwood Jones Regional Education Center, the new Jones Regional Medical Center and now the new Citizens State Bank Youth Development Center at the fairgrounds.
I’ve been told many times that this community has come together on more than one occasion to make projects like these so successful. Just think back over these past several years… the new Aquatic Center, the new library, the new Renaissance Center, the sports complex at the high school, the football field and track complex. The list is endless!
I think that says something about Monticello and its people, how you see value in this community and want to improve as time goes on. Many of these facilities are attractions for new residents or potential employees and business owners.
I’ve heard new residents remark on the busy downtown, the new library and great schools we have here. Those are all needed amenities for a community like Monticello.
Taking value in your community, wanting to see projects come to life and taking care of the citizens and future residents of Monticello are all positive attributes.
Now that there is a permanent home for the 4-H youth of Jones County and a new home for the Great Jones County Fair, there is even more vested interest in this community for years to come.
Who knows what else is out there, waiting to be developed or brought to life! (K.N.B.)
