Jordan Williams threw 190-foot-6 to win the Drake Relays college/university discus championship by less than an inch April 27 in Des Moines.

Williams, a Monticello High School graduate who is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa, was determined to win in his final Drake Relays.

“I think I put more pressure on myself than anyone else put on me,” Williams said. “It was just a really big deal to me, especially since I came so close (to winning at Drake) in high school. I didn’t want to get second again.”

Williams, who is ranked 11th in the country in the discus, has won the event in four meets this season.

The runner-up was Gabe Hull of Iowa.
