Vote for your favorite athlete

It is that time of the year to vote for your favorite Express Athlete of the Year. Following is a list of nominees.

Judges have been selected and nominations are listed with their accomplishments. In addition to the judges selecting a winner, we are also giving our readers an opportunity to select a people’s choice winner. (Editor’s note: compilation of post seasons awards are taken directly from their senior bios listed in the graduation issue. If any are incomplete, we apologize. This list may or may not be up to date for summer sport awards.)

Erin Hosch: Erin was active in volleyball and softball for four years. She was Honorable Mention All Conference is volleyball and team MVP. In softball, she was a two time 1st Team All Conference pitcher. She was 2nd team All State as a junior and 1st team All State as a senior. Erin also played basketball for two seasons. Erin was a member of the 2013 state qualifying softball team. Erin will take her softball skills to Loras College.

Kaylee Jones: Kaylee was a track standout. She was a sprinter on the track team all four years. Her running achievements include qualifying for state in the 100-meter dash all four years. She was runner up at state as a junior and won it all her senior season. She also qualified for the Drake Relays and state in several relay events both years. At state her junior year, her teams placed in the top five in three relay events.

Paxtyn Keleher: Paxtyn was active in soccer, basketball and softball for four years, and volleyball for two seasons. In basketball, she was named Honorable Mention All Conference as a junior and 1st team All Conference her senior season year as well as All District. In softball she was a 1st team All Conference her junior year and 2nd team All Conference her senior season. She was also an All District selection as a junior. She also played in the state basketball tournament her sophomore year as well in the state softball tournament this year. Paxtyn will continue playing basketball at the University of Dubuque.

Lael Lubben: Lael was in both basketball and softball all four years of high school. She also played soccer for two seasons. In basketball she was named 2nd team all conference. In softball, she was a two time 1st team All Conference catcher and recently was named the Coaches Association 2nd team All State catcher. Lael was a member of the 2013 state qualifying softball team.

Hannah Thompson: Hannah was one of two Panther athletes to participate in all four sports her entire career in the class of 2013. As a junior, she was named 1st team All State in golf and qualified for the state golf tournament. In softball she was named 1st team All Conference her senior season and played in the state softball tournament.

J.J. Frawley: J.J. was a four-year member of the track and cross-country teams. He was on two state champion cross country teams as well as the 2013 state champion track team. In cross-country he was 1st team All Conference and finished in 10th place at state. In track he was runner up at state in both the 1600 and 3200. He was on the 4×800 state champion relay team that also placed 2nd at Drake. He also qualified for state track as a junior in the 800 and placed 5th with the 4×800 relay team. He will run cross country and track at Wartburg.

Dallas Lumpa: Dallas was in basketball, track and cross-country for four years. He was 2nd team All Conference in basketball. He also was named All Conference and All District in cross-country and as well as track. He was on two state champion cross country teams and the 2013 state track championship team. In track he was on the 4×800 and 1600 medley state champion relay teams. He placed 3rd in the 800 at state. He also qualified and placed at drake as a senior and at state his junior year. He will run cross country and track at Wartburg.

Logan McQuillen: Logan was in football, track and wrestling all four years of high school. He played baseball for two seasons. In football he was an All State linebacker his senior year. In wrestling, he became Monticello’s first state champion. In track, he was on the 2013 state champion track team where he placed 10th in the 400 hurdles. He also qualified for state in track his junior year. Logan will wrestle for the University of Iowa.

Michael Reuter: Michael participated in football, golf and baseball for four seasons. He was named 2nd team All District twice in football. In baseball he was 2nd team All Conference as a junior and first team All Conference his senior season. He was also 2nd team All District in baseball this year. Michael will play baseball at Central College.

Brian Turnis: Brian was also a member of the track and cross country teams for four years, running on back-to-back state champion cross-country teams and the 2013 state champion track team. In track he ran on the state champion 4×800 team, which set a 2A state record this year and also was on the state champion 1600 medley relay team. He went to Drake his senior year and also qualified for state track in the 400 hurdles. As a junior he ran at state on the 4×400 relay.
