April 2, 1950 – Sept. 3, 2013
Paul E. “PT Hawk” Tjaden, age 63, of Janesville, Wis., and formerly of Monticello, Iowa, died on the evening of Sept. 3, 2013, at his home.
Family and friends were invited to visit and reminiscence about Paul’s life on Monday, September 9 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home in Janesville. A memorial service took place at noon on Monday, and a luncheon was held immediately after at Spirits Food and Boos.
Paul was born in Monticello, Iowa, April 2, 1950, to the late Eldon and Edith (Willimak) Tjaden.
Paul graduated with a degree in teaching from UW-Platteville, and later received his Master of Reading degree from UW-Whitewater. Paul was a teacher in the Janesville School District for 30 years. He began in 1972 at Happy Hollow for two years, and taught the remaining years at Washington and Harrison schools. Since he easily related to his students with his guitar and singing, he created lifelong friends with these students. He even spent time outside of school with some students by bringing them fishing.
Paul is survived by his three daughters, Jessica Tjaden of Milwaukee, Wis., Katie (Tony) Balster of Minneapolis, Minn., and Laura Tjaden of Whitewater, Wis.; his sister, Linda Jo Tjaden, of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will also be remembered by former students, parents, colleagues, and fellow umpires.
The family asks that any donations in memory of Paul be sent to UW Hospitals and Clinics, attn. Colleen Fraser, 600 Highland Ave., Madison, WI 53792-8350 and assign the funds to the “Organ Donor Education Fund.”
