According to Bob Hatcher, executive director of the Jones County Tourism Association, visitor spending in Jones County remains strong. The Iowa Economic Development Authority recently commissioned a study by the U.S. Travel Association that concluded visitor spending in Jones County in 2012 was over $21.70 million. This is an increase of 6.11 percent over 2011.

Tourism spending equates to jobs for Jones County. The study found that payroll income, directly attributed to travel spending, totaled $2.05 million and nearly 100 jobs. Through their spending, visitors to Jones County contributed $1.19 million in sales and hotel/motel taxes to the State of Iowa and $140,000 to support Jones County communities! These taxes support local infrastructures and programming for our residents.

The Jones County Tourism Association leverages dollars. For every dollar that the Jones County Tourism Association invested in tourism sales and marketing initiatives in 2012, the return on investment resulted in thousands of dollars in direct spending in the county.
