Lawrence J. Hartung, 86, of Monticello, died, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 9:50 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue, with Rev. Phil Kruse officiating. 

Eucharistic Minister was Jessica McEvoy.  Lector was Pat Hartung.  Placing of the pall was done by Rita Hartung, Maureen McEvoy, Patricia Kula, Brian McEvoy, Jessica McEvoy and Andrew McEvoy.  Giftbearers were Brian McEvoy, Jessica McEvoy and Andrew McEvoy.  Musicians were Bernadine Hartung, Pat Hartung, Ron Schroeder, Robert Schroeder and Jeanette Hartung Schrader.  Casketbearers were Brian McEvoy, Andrew McEvoy, Ed Snyder, Roger Fischer, Randy Kirk, and Lynn Kilburg.

Burial was held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bellevue.

Friends and relatives called from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a Scripture service was held at 4 p.m with Rev. Paul Baldwin.

Lawrence was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Meinrad and Ruth (Tucker) Hartung.  He is a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Bellevue.  Lawrence was a retired farmer in the Bellevue area.

On Nov. 4, 1989, he was united in marriage to Rita (Noonan) Ries.

Lawrence was a member of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus-Council # 1354.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Hartung of Monticello; step-daughters, Maureen (Joe) McEvoy of Central City, Patricia (Jim) Kula of Hopkinton; step-grandchildren, Brian, Jessica and Andrew McEvoy; his sisters, Kathleen Kilburg of Bellevue, Bernice Snyder of Menominee, Wis., Mary (Earl) Fischer of Cascade, and Madonna (Charles) Kirk of Bellevue; sisters-in-law, Bernadine Hartung of Preston, Ann Noonan of Cedar Rapids, and Kay Noonan of Prairieburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Loras, and a brother Joseph Hartung; brothers-in-law, Alfred Snyder, Leroy Kilburg, Norbert, Merlin, Delbert and Richard Noonan; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Pagani.
