BABBLING BROOKS column–Express Editor Kim Brooks

Before I became Editor at the Monticello Express, there was a tradition here. At the end of each calendar year, both the news and sports editors put together a “year in review.” This was a list of the top news and sports stories and photos, a recap of the year according to the Monticello Express.

This year, Pete Temple and I decided to try something different, and we need your help!

Within my column and Pete’s column in the sports section, you’ll find a list of the top 25 news and sports stories that we featured and covered throughout 2013, lettered “A” to “Y.” (Yes, 2014 is right around the corner!) We would like to feature the top 10 news and sports stories in our Jan. 1 Monticello Express.

This is where you, our trusty readers, come in!

Simply read over our lists and narrow our top 25 to your top 10, paring number one with the letter of your choice. The publications dates appear in parenthesis to help refresh your memory. Submit your list to us via e-mail (kbrooks@monticelloexpress.com or ptemple@monticelloexpress.com), drop it off at our office (111 E. Grand St.) or mail it to us at P.O. Box 191, Monticello, IA 52310. If you would like to include any comments as to your top 10, feel free and we’ll include some of those in our Jan. 1 issue. The deadline is Monday, Dec. 23, at noon.
