The Monticello FFA participated in a variety of different activities throughout the 2017-2018 calendar year, receiving numerous top-10 finishes and gold ratings in state events while also participating and performing local service activities.
This year the Midland FFA had what many would say to be a learning year.
At the end of the school year of the previous year, we all found out that we would be getting a new advisor. There were many mixed emotions, as we had all had the same advisor for so long that we never expected this to happen. However, we embraced the new change with open arms and saw it as an opportunity.
The Maquoketa Valley FFA has been actively involved in the community and in several competitions this past year.
We sponsored a kid’s pedal tractor pull at Earlville Fourth of July Celebration. The Delaware County Fair was another successful year with members exhibiting projects and showing their sheep, cattle, dairy, goats and swine. FFA member Shelby Westhoff served as the Delaware County Dairy Princess and Brooke Wilson was the Delaware County Pork Queen and was crowned Delaware County Fair Queen.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is encouraging eligible farm owners to apply for the 2019 Century and Heritage Farm Program.
The program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. It recognizes families that have owned their farm for 100 years in the case of Century Farms and 150 years for Heritage Farms.
The Olin 4-H Club held its monthly meeting on Feb. 3, 2019. During our meeting, reports were read and committee group meetings took place with updates given from each group.
A meal, the naming of royalty, awards and entertainment were all part of the Jones County Dairy Banquet Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Berndes Center in Monticello.
Jones County royalty for 2018 were recognized, including Jones County Dairy Princess Gabby Gadient, Little Miss Squirt Reagan Stoll, and Little Sir Dairyman Dalton Ricklefs. Ashlynn Sparks and Gabrielle Steiner were also candidates for Dairy Princess. Also on hand was Jessica Schmitt, the 2018-19 Iowa Dairy Princess.
