According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Corrections, a prison inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary has died.
Anthony Steven Spurgeon, 31 years of age, was pronounced dead at approximately 9 a.m. on April 18, due to apparent suicide. Spurgeon had been serving a 15-year maximum term for the crime of habitual offender and other charges from Wapello County. His sentence began on Aug. 27, 2018.
The Department of Corrections investigates all suspected suicides within its correctional facilities.
