Starlighters announces cast for ‘August: Osage County’

     Starlighters II Community Theatre has announced the cast for their first production of their 51st season.

   “August: Osage County” is a gripping, dark comedy and drama that delves into the chaos of family dysfunction. When the Weston family reunites at their Oklahoma home following the mysterious disappearance of their patriarch, secrets are exposed, tensions flare, and buried resentments boil over. At the center of the storm is Violet Weston, the sharp-tongued, pill-popping matriarch who spares no one from her scathing wrath.

Model Car Contest winners announced

   The 40th Annual Model Car Contest (featured at the KCRG-TV9-presented 56th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show) took place, Feb. 22-23 at the Monticello Berndes Center.

   Contest winners received a trophy and model kit awards.

     The Anamosa P.E.O. Chapter will hold its 12th annual Spring Tea on Saturday, April 12, at Fawn Creek Country Club, Anamosa. The tea will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Speech students shine in conference, district contests

   The Monticello speech team traveled to Wilton Feb. 24 to participate in the River Valley Conference Individual Speech Contest, and then to DeWitt for the District Individual Speech Contest March 1.

JRMC recognized for ninth time as Top 100 Hospital

     UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has been recognized as a 2025 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. Chartis’ annual Top 100 award program recognizes outstanding performance amount the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX.

     KCRG-TV9 presented the 56th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show last weekend, Feb. 22 and 23 at the Monticello Berndes Center in Monticello, Iowa.

   Owners of winning entries received McAllister Electrical Services trophies and Citizen State Bank cash awards.

   Entries represented five states: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin

JRMC Auxiliary annual meeting planned at Lubben Wines

     The UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Auxiliary will be hosting their annual meeting on Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Lubben Vineyards & Wines (13504 Highway 151) in Anamosa.

   The event will include burrata, flatbreads, and chocolates, ice tea, and water for $15. Wine is available for purchase.

   The program will include owners Dan and Judy Lubben sharing their story about the facility and their wines. There will be a brief business meeting, including election of officers.

   Arnulfo and Karen Arriaga have had a lot to celebrate and be thankful for as 2025 rolled in.

   For the past 12 years, they’ve operated La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant in Monticello. For the first eight years, they rented the building; four years ago, they chose to purchase the former Hardee’s building.
