Express pioneer, Wagner, passes away

     On Sept. 22, The Monticello Express family lost a trailblazer…

   Betty J. Wagner, or as she became known in her weekly opinion pieces “B.J.W.,” passed away in New Mexico. She was born on March 4, 1936, in Higginsville, Mo.

   Wagner’s history with the Express is monumental, as was her life in journalism and civic service.

Zimmerman captures ‘Jones Co. Historical Landmarks’ as works of art

     From now until Sept. 24, be sure to stop by the Monticello Heritage and Cultural Center to see first-hand the original artwork of Monticello artist Donna Zimmerman.

   Zimmerman spent almost a year and a half capturing and painting 13 works for art titled “Jones County Historical Landmarks.”

   “It’s a passion I never knew I had,” she said for capturing these landmarks that one can see throughout the county.

Camp Courageous Waffle Breakfast, Sept. 29

     The Camp Courageous Waffle Breakfast and Open House will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon in Camp’s main lodge. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the Camp’s facilities and recent updates, as well as enjoy a hot breakfast of waffles, sausage, coffee, juice, and milk. All proceeds go to Camp Courageous.

Larabee receives white coat

     Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine held their “White Coat Ceremony” for members of the 149th class, or the 2,028 College of Veterinary Medicine class, on Aug. 23. The ceremony was held at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium on the campus of Iowa State University, Ames.

Historical county documents now available in digital, searchable form

     There is a free, new service available to the public via the Jones County Auditor and Recorder’s websites.

   Both sites now contain a link that allows the public to research, view, and download historical county archive documents.

Kirkwood kicks off Leadership Council with stakeholders

     “On behalf of President Dr. Kristie Fisher, the Kirkwood Foundation, and myself, I want to express our sincere gratitude for attending our inaugural Kirkwood Jones County Leadership Council. What a fantastic group of Jones County leaders. We recognize how busy you are, and we appreciate you sharing your time and input with us. The purpose of yesterday's meeting was to establish a foundation for collaboration, foster community engagement, and generate momentum for future initiatives.
