George “Joe” Joseph Smith, age 85, of Monticello, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, in the loving arms of his wife and surrounded by family.

Galen Kuper, age 85, died peacefully on Nov. 10, 2025, on the land he loved, farmed, and lived on in Scotch Grove, Iowa. 

      Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Alex Chase Jones, 73, of Monticello, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Cathy Arduser, 72, died peacefully at her home early Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, 2025.

      Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Monticello Baptist Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.  Pastor Brett Denham officiated at the services.  Friends called from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home.

      Matthew Lorenzen, 48, died suddenly at the family farm on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025.     

 Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at 10:57 a.m. at the Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation, rural Central City, with interment in the North Maddison Pioneer Cemetery, Center Junction.   Visitation was held from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Pastor Holly Knouse officiated at the services.
