     It’s been a trip…Dancing across the light fantastic of my life! I have been fortunate to take 63 trips around the sun, and what an incredible adventure it has been. Beginning my life in an Iowa small town, born into a loving family that, along with my parents and siblings, included grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I learned quite a bit from my grandmothers who always had their ways of imparting pearls of wisdom that guided me throughout my life. My mother, Shirley, was a saint putting up with my mischievous boyhood and my father, Roger, was a source of knowledge and strength.

Shirley Marie Hearn Feb. 7, 1937 – April 3, 2018

Shirley Hearn, 81, of Monticello, died peacefully, with her loving husband of 64 years by her side on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Pinicon Place in Anamosa. Hours later, her oldest son, Mark Hearn, also passed away.

Funeral services are pending.

Shirley was born on Feb. 7, 1937, to Richard and Margaret (Eilers) Tuetken in Monticello.  She attended Monticello schools.  On Aug. 24, 1953, she married Roger Hearn in Iowa City. 

Harris Harmsen Jan. 14, 1942 – April 1, 2018

Harris Harmsen, age 76, died Sunday, April 1, 2018 in his home in Monticello.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning, April 5, 2018 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where friends may call after 9:30.  Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg at a later date.  

John T. Burlage Jan. 8, 1936 – April 1, 2018

John T. Burlage, 82, of Monticello, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Society in Manchester.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 700 East Oak St in Monticello where a parish vigil service will be recited at 3 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm.  Visitation will continue Thursday from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 4700 Valley Farm Rd, in Central City prior to funeral services.

Charles “Chuck” Pierce March 9, 1940-March 22, 2018

     Charles “Chuck” Pierce, 78, of Cascade Iowa, passed away, Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his home in Cascade, Iowa.

     Friends and relatives of Chuck called from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service was held at 1:30 p.m. and a KC Rosary was held at 7 p.m. 

Patrick “Shorty” Rink Feb. 24, 1947 – March 14, 2018

      Patrick “Shorty” Rink, 71, of Marion, passed away on March 14, 2018 at his home. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Steward Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with funeral at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

James Russell Chaplin July 16, 1937 – March 15, 2018

James Russell Chaplin was born on July 16, 1937 in Onslow to parents Russell and Harriet Chaplin. Jim’s hobbies included reading, comic book collecting, gardening, and exploring the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. He loved investing in people and ideas. He loved the oceans. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He used the gifts he’d been given to bless others.

Norm P. McCormick March 17, 1938-March 4, 2018

     Norm P. McCormick, 79, of Monticello passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at his home after a 10-month illness.

     Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello prior to Mass.

     Joy Esther Cheney, 83, of Monticello, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018.

     Celebration of Life: 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, Iowa, with the Rev. Emory Gillespie officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the church on Monday. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery (Garden of the Cross), Cedar Rapids.

Bonnie Lyon April 9, 1929-Feb. 26, 2018

     Bonnie Lyon of Center Junction passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by her family and friends.

     A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Wyoming on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at North Madison Cemetery in rural Center Junction.
