     Shirley King, age 79, died Jan. 3, 2017 at Jones Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

     Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, Jan. 9, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Emory Gillespie will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.      Ruth Lahey, age 95, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 Tuesday morning where friends may call after 10, Jan. 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Fr.      Terri Ellison Smith, age 58, of Tipton, formerly of Anamosa and Monticello, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa following an extended illness.

     Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2017 at the Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello. Rick Biere Nov. 27, 1950-Dec. 30, 2016

     Rick Biere, 66, of Wauwatosa, Wis., passed away on Dec. 30, 2016.

     Rick was born to Raymond and Irene Biere on Nov. 27, 1950 and graduated from Anamosa High School in 1969. He received his degree in Accounting from Wartburg College in 1973 and spent his career as a Medicare auditor. His passions included biking, cars, animals, and college sports.

     Elizabeth “Betty” Schlimmer, 96, of Monticello, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, Monticello, Iowa.

     Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. A continued visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to funeral services at church.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, and Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate. A burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery following her funeral services.

    Velda Maxine Brokens, age 92, of Monticello passed from this life on Dec. 19, 2016. A memorial service celebrating Velda’s life was held Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello, with Rev. Ed Moreano officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service.

     Justus R. Dowell, 26, of Monticello died at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2016.

     A visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Monticello Berndes Center in Monticello following the visitation.

Dorothy Fitzsimmons, 87, of Monticello died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 am Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello where a Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 am.  Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.
