Alfred Lee Dirks June 22, 1955 – Dec. 14, 2024

      Alfred Lee Dirks lost his fight with pancreatic cancer and passed on Dec. 14, 2024, at Westview Care Center in Britt. He was born on June 22, 1955, the son of James Alfred (Jim) and AnnaMay Dirks of Anamosa. He was the oldest son in the family of 11 children and was called Lee by his close family.

Joan Kraus Sept. 18, 1962 – Dec. 12, 2024

      Joan Kraus, 62, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away from early onset Dementia Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024. A Catholic graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Monticello. A celebration of life will follow from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Monticello.

Darrell West May 6, 1936 – Dec. 12, 2024

      Darrell West, 88, of Onslow passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024 at Accura HealthCare of Cascade. 

    A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at Wyoming Methodist Church. Burial will be at South Mineral Cemetery. 

Ruth Cox Dec. 6, 1947 – Dec. 3, 2024

      Ruth Cox, 76, died peacefully, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Fairfax.  

    Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at S. S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. Friends called from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Loren Eilers Dec. 14, 1942 – Nov. 30, 2024

      Loren Eilers, 81, of Cascade, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Palo, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Specialty Care in Mechanicsville.

      Julia L. Carlson went to be with her Heavenly Father on Oct. 29, 2024, after a stroke ended her exuberant earthly life of 94 years. She had recently moved from Monticello, Iowa to Antigo, Wis. where she enjoyed her last days at Evergreen Terrace Assisted Living.

Melissa (Malkewitz) Murrell Sept. 28, 1966 – Oct. 27, 2024

    Melissa (Malkewitz) Murrell 58, died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024 in her husband's arms. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2024 at the S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Prairie Hill Cemetery. Pastor Holly Knouse officiated the services. Roberta Stephenson-Johnson May 23, 1952 – Oct. 24, 2024

      Roberta Lynn Stephenson-Johnson, 72, of Marion, passed away on Oct. 24, 2024, at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a short but brave battle with cancer. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 7, 4-7 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home with an hour of visitation prior to the service. The service will be followed by a time of food and fellowship at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at approx. 2 p.m. at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, 15531 Co. Rd.

      Joan F. Koppes, 79, of Monticello, Iowa passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids.

    Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 from 9  to 11 a.m. at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Cascade. A Catholic Mass was held at 11 a.m. with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. Rev. Osterhaus officiated.
