      Brenda Kay (Harried) Luensman, 55, of Monticello, entered  into heaven on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

    A Service of Remembrance was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024 at Berean Bible Church, 16107 County Road E16, Monticello.  Pastor Mike Martin officiated at the services.  Friends called from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.   Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Brenda and her family into their care.  Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at Goettschonline.com.

Robert (Bob) Bearce Death – Sept. 6, 2024

      Robert (Bob) Bearce, 63, of Edgewood passed away unexpectedly Sept. 6, 2024.

    Bob was a free spirit. He lived life on his own terms, indifferent to fear - either his own, or those of others. He loved drawing and to tinker with anything he could get his hands on. He always had a story to tell of his younger, and very wild days. Bob always had something witty to say, whether it be insightful or sarcastic. If you needed something fixed or a helping hand he was the first person to get there and didn’t leave until the job was done.

Steven “Ben” Kelchen Date of death – Sept. 1, 2024

      Steven “Ben” Kelchen, 72, of Center Junction, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024.

    Per his request, there will be no services.

    He graduated from Monticello High School in 1971 and worked at Theisen’s and then retired from Welter Storage of Monticello.

Sarah Monk April 1, 1976 – Sept. 3, 2024

      Sarah Monk, 48, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries sustained following an accidental fall from her horse.

    A private service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate the service.

Russel Eugene Streeper April 15, 1934 – Sept. 2, 2024

      Russel Eugene Streeper, 90, of Onslow, Iowa, died on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, after a brief illness, at his home surrounded by his family. Russel never knew a stranger, referred to himself as a sweet ornery old GOAT, and loved big. He was a dedicated family man and great friend. His passing will leave a void for many.

John Schweitzer Aug. 4, 1937 – Aug. 17, 2024

      John William Schweitzer, 87, passed away on Aug. 17, 2024, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. In the last years of his life he lived in Eden Prairie, Minn., but prior to that called an impressive number of places across the Midwest home including  Decorah, Davenport, Anamosa, Monticello and Cedar Rapids, lowa; Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Milwaukee, Middleton and Cumberland, Wis., St. Paul, Minneapolis, International Falls and Woodbury, Minn.; Bismarck, N.D., Kansas City, Mo., Olathe, Kan. and Glen Ellyn, Ill.

Carl Wittenburg March 21, 1952 – Aug. 25, 2024

      Carl Whittenburg, 72, died peacefully Sunday morning, Aug. 25, 2024, at his daughters’ home.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello.  Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. followed by lunch. 

    Surviving are five children, Derek Whittenburg, Valerie Johanson, Amiee Luedeman, Danielle Whittenburg-Moore, Garett Whittenburg; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Everett and Henry.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phyllis Gene Hart Ortgies Oct. 22, 1942 – Aug. 5, 2024

          Phyllis Gene Hart Ortgies, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away of natural causes on Aug. 5, 2024, at her home in Redmond, Ore. She was 81 years old.

Corrine Schneiter Oct. 16, 1953 – July 26, 2024

      Corrine Marion Schneiter, 70, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at UnityPoint Health, St. Luke’s Hospital with her family by her side from complications of multiple-myleloma.

    Corrine was born the third of five children at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Manchester, Iowa on Oct. 16, 1953 to Howard H. and Faye C. Boss Schneiter.

Jeffrey Michelson Jan. 14, 1961 – July 31, 2024

      Jeffrey Alan Michelson, 63, of Superior, Iowa, passed away suddenly on July 31, 2024, in Chicago, Ill. Jeff was born on Jan. 14, 1961 in Estherville, Iowa. He was a loving and devoted family man. He attended Spirit Lake High School before putting in time at Rohlins Construction. However,  it was his career as a truck driver that truly defined him. Most recently, he spent 21 fulfilling years at Ahlers Enterprises, where work wasn't just a task but a part of a family.
