      Betty J. DeShaw, 96, of Hopkinton died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello.

    A visitation will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington where a Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Betty was born Dec. 31, 1925, near Buck Creek.  She graduated from high school in 1943, from Buck Creek.  She married Howard DeShaw on Feb. 8, 1944, at Immaculate Conception Church in Sand Springs.  Together they farmed North of Sand Springs until Howard passed away on June 28, 1972.  Betty continued to farm and raise her family of eight children.  She loved vegetable gardening and canning in the early years and later transitioned to flower gardening with her golf cart.  She also loved giving her great-grandchildren golf cart rides. She was a fabulous cook and was known for her homemade bread and cookies.

    After retiring from the farm, she worked as a receptionist at John McDonald Hospital and as a librarian assistant at the Hopkinton Public Library.

    She is survived by her children: Dick (Vicki) DeShaw of Lancaster, Wis., Darlene Heims of Manchester, Shirley (Ed) Stecklein of Monticello, Dixie (Dennis) Offerman of Earlville, Tim (Lou) DeShaw of Delhi, Terry (Carla) DeShaw of Hopkinton; a son-in-law, Paul Schmidt of Monticello and a daughter-in-law, Connie DeShaw of Worthington; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Dolores Mohr.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children: Lynda Schmidt and Fred DeShaw, and a son-in-law, Jerry Heims; siblings: Harold (Vera) Mohr, Donald (Annalee) Mohr, Cecelia (Loren) Smith, Delores (Merle) DeShaw and Bob Mohr.
