City council, mayor nomination papers now available

     Whitney Hein, Jones County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, announces that the nomination filing period for mayor and city council will begin Monday, Aug. 28, in the offices of the county auditor and runs until 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. All nomination papers for city offices must be filed in the office of the county auditor at the courthouse in Anamosa. City candidate nomination papers can no longer be filed with the respective city clerk.

   In the City of Monticello, the office of mayor and six at-large council seats are up for election. The signatures of at least 25 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions for mayor and council at-large. The term of office for mayor is two years. The three highest vote-getters for council seats will serve four-year terms; the next three highest vote-getters for council seats will serve two-year terms.

   In the City of Anamosa, the office of mayor and three at-large council seats are up for election. The signatures of at least 25 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions for mayor and council. The term of office for mayor is two years, and the council terms are four years each.

   In the City of Martelle, the office of mayor and three at-large council seats are up for election. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions for mayor and council at-large. The mayoral term is four years, and the council at-large terms are four years each.

   In the City of Morley, the office of mayor and five council at-large seats are up for election. All seats are for two-year terms. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions.

   In the City of Olin, the office of mayor and three council at-large seats are up for election. The term of office for mayor is two years, and the council terms are four years each. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions.

   In the City of Onslow, the office of mayor and three council at-large seats are up for election. The term of office for mayor is two years, and the council terms are four years each. In addition, there is a council at-large vacancy to be filled for the two years remaining in the term. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions.

   In the City of Oxford Junction, the office of mayor and two council at-large seats are up for election. The term of office for mayor is two years, and the council at-large terms are four years each. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions.

   In the City of Wyoming, the office of mayor and two council at-large seats are up for election. The term of office for mayor is two years, and the council at-large terms are four years each. In addition, there is a council at-large vacancy to be filled for the two years remaining in the term. Signatures of at least 10 eligible electors of the city are required on nomination petitions.

   Nomination packets are available in the office of the city clerk, the Jones County Auditor's Office, and the Jones County Election website (www.jonescountyiowaelections.gov).

   The combined city and school election is on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
