Coalition diversity training open to public

The Jones County Safe and Health Youth Coalition is hosting a class on diversity and inclusion.

This two-part class is an extension of the first workshop held in July 2017. For those who missed the first session, there will be a brief recap.

The class is open to members of the Coalition, to teachers and administrators, and anyone in the community who is interested. The goal and objective of the class is meant to probe deeper into the issues of inclusion and diversity and to ultimately develop a diversity taskforce for Jones County.

The class will be limited to 30 people.

The workshop will be held at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa. The first session will take place Thursday, Feb. 22, from 4-6 p.m., with the second session on Thursday, March 29, also from 4-6 p.m. The fee for the two-part class is $10. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

You are asked to register by Thursday, Feb. 15 by calling 319-462-4327 ext. 202 or e-mail jcshycoalition@asac.us.

The instructor will be Richard Tapia, a retired and former associate director of diversity for the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
