FFA WEEK

Maquoketa Valley FFA has had a great start to the 2023-2024 year. The chapter is led by the 2023-2024 Officer Team which consists of President Lainey Knipper; Vice Presidents Ethen Brockholn and Kody Hoeger; Secretary Leah Reicher; Treasurer Alia Domeyer; Reporters Haley Ronnebaum and Kaya Knipper; and Sentinel Nathan Beitz.

The competition season started in September with State Milk Quality and Dairy Evaluation at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The Dairy Evaluation team placed ninth and the Milk Quality team placed 10th. A few weeks later 11 members traveled to Tri-State Dairy Days at NICC Calmar. The Dairy Cattle Evaluation Reasons team placed sixth and the Milk Quality and Products team placed 10th. Rounding out the busy month of September was the District Soil Evaluation at Hawkeye Community College. Eleven members participated in this contest.

In October, new members kicked off their FFA journey at the Greenhand Fire-Up. Our chapter also held the second annual MV FFA Fed in the Field event, and delivered meals to 60-plus farmers. Continuing on the volunteer path, the chapter held a school-wide clothing drive. The articles of clothing were donated to the Delhi Thrift Store.

Eleven members also traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. for the 96th National FFA Convention & Expo. They attended agricultural tours, workshops, and the career fair. Concluding the 2024 year Maquoketa Valley FFA partnered with Delaware County Pay it Forward and purchased gifts for families in need. Members competing in upcoming contests also began practicing for their events.

FFA members are currently preparing for the sub-district contest, which is held at Maquoketa Valley this year. At this contest the following members will be competing: Natalie Ries (Creed Speaking), Kyle Engelken, Ella Reicher, Seth Dugan, Addison Bonert, Olivia Ronnebaum, McKenna Mineart and Ruby Recker (Conduct of Meetings), Caden Ries, Brendan Frasher, Ford Domeyer, Ty Hoeger and Dexter Dietiker (Parliamentary Procedure), Leah Reicher (Extemporaneous Speaking), Kaya Knipper (Public Speaking), Allison Hogan (Job Interview), McKayla Weber (Ag Broadcasting), and Ashton Klaren (Ag Sales).

Several members are also taking the Greenhand and Chapter Tests, including Ivan Otto, Ava Knipper, Breanna McShane, Bryce Vaske, Brenyn Robinson, Griffin Honkomp, Chase Krogmann, Braden Ronnebaum and Karly Kerch. From this contest members will move onto District Convention and Waukon High School in March.

Maquoketa Valley FFA will graduate a strong group of senior members this year, with eight of them earning their Iowa Degrees at the 2024 Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference. These include: Ethen Brockhohn, Kody Hoeger, Kaya Knipper, Lainey Knipper, Lucas Knipper, Harold Mohr, Parker Ries and Haley Ronnebaum.

Members will also soon be in the greenhouse planting our beautiful hanging baskets. The MV Market is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, with the plant sale to follow the remainder of that week.
