Conventions and more keep Midland officers busy

SALUTE TO FFA WEEK

   The Midland FFA Chapter’s officers have stayed busy with a wide variety of conventions, contests, meetings and other activities.

   Here is a capsule look at this year’s officer class.

 

   Name: Hannah Fishwild

   Year in school: Senior

   Office held: Co-President

   Parents/Guardians: Scott and Sarah Fishwild

   Hometown: Wyoming

   SAE project: Beef Entrepreneurship; 60-head cow/calf operation.

   FFA activities: Ag Issues, Chapter Program, Floriculture, Vet Science, Fruit Sales, Ag Communication, Creed Speaking, Farm Safety, Experience the Action, Livestock Judging, showing cattle at Wyoming, Jones County and State fairs; Christmas Light Setup, Petting Zoos, Community Service.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Getting to compete at National Convention and placing fourth in the nation in Ag Issues.

   Future plans: Attend Iowa State University, majoring in kinesiology.

  

   Name: Karley Schaefer

   Year in school: Senior

   Office held: Co-President

   Parents/Guardians: Darrin and Julie Schaefer

   Hometown: Onslow

   SAE project: Equine placement – caring for and training Silver’s Wee Kid.

   FFA activities: Ag Issues, Highway Cleanup, National Convention, Meals to Farmers, Wreath-Making, Ag Communication, showing horses at Jones County and State fairs, and nationally through the POA organization.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Being State Reserve Champions in Agriculture Communications.

   Future plans: Attend Iowa State University to study kinesiology/pre-physician assistant.

  

   Name: Jayson Ruley

   Year in school: Sophomore

   Office held: Secretary

   Parents/Guardians: Dean and Cheri Ruley

   Hometown: Oxford Junction

   SAE project: Jayson’s Articles Contributing to Knowledge (JACK), history blog.

   FFA activities: Fun Run, Wyoming Fair, Back to School Bonfire, Farm Safety, National Convention, Ag Marketing, Parliamentary Procedure, Experience the Action, Conduct of Meetings.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: “My first National Convention was one of the most action-packed and fun times of my life. Otherwise being a part of this year’s officer team has been one of the most interesting teams I have ever been a part of.”

   Future plans: Attend college for engineering.

  

   Name: Owen Sterk

   Year in school: Junior

   Office held: Treasurer

   Parents/Guardians: Shawn and Teri Sterk

   Hometown: Wyoming

   SAE project: Swine Placement – Hog Confinements.

   FFA activities: Fun Fun, Wyoming Fair Petting Zoo, Farm Safety, National Convention, Experience the Action, Ag Issues.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Advancing to State and placing fourth for Experience the Action, and attending National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

   Future plans: Undecided.

  

   Name: Logan Rockwell

   Year in school: Sophomore

   Office held: Sentinel

   Parents/Guardians: Jeremy and Amanda Rockwell

   Hometown: Wyoming

   SAE project: Working at Balichek Farms.

   FFA activities: Conduct of Meetings, Parliamentary Procedure, Ag Mechanics, Ag Marketing, Hockey Games, Greenhand Test, Farm Safety, Night Meetings.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Getting a gold rating on the Greenhand Test at State. Also, weashing Jaylou Schmauker win State for Chapter Website.

   Future plans: “I plan to go into agriculture and farm.”

  

   Name: Jayda Thomsen

   Year in school: Senior

   Office held: Reporter

   Parents/Guardians: Barbara and Deejay Thomsen

   Hometown: Oxford Junction

   SAE project: Food Processing – Jayda’s Processing.

   FFA activities: Highway Cleanup, National Convention, Floriculture, Parliamentary Procedure, Conduct of Meetings, Marketing Plan, Meals to Farmers, Jones County Fair, Wyoming Fair, Dairy Products, Chapter Leadership and Development, Nursery Landscape, and Community Service.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: “Giving back to the community when I can.”
