Conventions are among Monticello senior highlights

FFA WEEK

   Monticello’s FFA seniors cite earning degrees, and attending state and national conventions and conferences, as their biggest and most memorable accomplishments in their chapter careers.

   Here is a capsule look at this year’s chapter seniors.

 

   Name: Brady Hayen

   Parents/Guardians: Mike and Judy Hayen

   SAE project: Hayen Farms.

   FFA activities: Livestock Judging.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Ag Mechanics Competition.

   Future plans: Farm.

 

   Name: Keaton Hermsen

   Parents/Guardians: Steve and Laurie Hermsen

   SAE project: Family farm.

   FFA activities: Two State Conventions, one National Convention.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Getting my State FFA Degree.

   Future plans: Enter the workforce.

 

   Name: Claire Hogan

   Offices held: Past Secretary and Vice President (x2)

   Parents/Guardians: Dominic and Karen Hogan

   SAE project: Sheep, PrairieMoon on Main.

   FFA activities: Ignite, Conduct of Meetings, Prepared Public, Biotech (x2), Job Interview (x2).

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Washington Leadership Conference.

   Future plans: Attend Iowa State University and major in agriculture communications.

 

   Name: Baylor Holub

   Parents/Guardians: Brad and Larissa Holub

   SAE project: Food Service, WFP Research Paper, Garden Experiment.

   FFA activities: State FFA three years, Sub-Districts one year, Feed the Farmers.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: When Keaton (Hermsen) got to mast the flags.

   Future plans: Attend Iowa State University for philosophy or religious studies.

 

   Name: Carter Martin

   Office held: Past Sentinel

   Parents/Guardians: Bruce and Jennifer Martin

   SAE project: Timber management, Ju-Lee Dairy, Lovewel Prairie, Fareway.

   FFA activities: National Convention, Northeast District Food Science, State Convention (x3), three area competitions.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Going to the National FFA Convention; hands-down the coolest thing I have been to. My greatest accomplishment is getting my State FFA Degree.

   Future plans: Continue working on the dairy farm until I decide what I would like to do with the rest of my life.

 

   Name: Kaden McAtee

   Office held: Past Reporter

   Parents/Guardians: Aaron and Kelly McAtee

   SAE project: Raising rabbits and working at the Vet Clinic.

   FFA activities: District and State Food Science, State Dairy Foods, State Poultry, State Vet Science.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Making the Vet Science video. It was a very interesting process with lots of bloopers.

   Future plans: Attending Iowa State University. I will be majoring in animal science on the pre-vet track. After I complete my undergrad, I intend to go to vet school.

 

   Name: Landon Orcutt

   Parents/Guardians: Aaron and Traysa Orcutt

   SAE project: Grain Production.

   FFA activities: State and District Ag Mechanics every year of my high school career.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Going to National Convention in Indianapolis.

   Future plans: Farming.

 

   Name: Dawson Ricklefs

   Parents/Guardians: Dustin and Lindsay Ricklefs

   SAE project: Dairy Placement.

   FFA activities: State Convention, National Convention, Farm Business Management.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Receiving my State FFA Degree.

   Future plans: Work on the family farm.

 

   Name: Kinzi Schlarmann

   Offices held: Past Treasurer and Vice President

   Parents/Guardians: John and Jami Schlarmann

   SAE project: Schlarmann Farms and Holstein Production.

   FFA activities: Conduct of Meetings and Marketing Plan.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Going to National Convention my sophomore year.

   Future plans: Attend Iowa State University to major in agricultural communications and minor in marketing.

 

   Name: John Welter

   Parents/Guardians: Jay and Breanna Welter

   SAE project: Beef Placement, Beef Entrepreneurship.

   FFA activities: Ag Biotechnology, State Convention, National Convention.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Going to State Convention my junior year and receiving the Iowa Degree.

   Future plans: Attend lineman school.

 

   Name: Cooper Wickman

   Office held: Past Secretary and President

   Parents/Guardians: Alan and Amy Wickman

   SAE project: SGR Plumbing & Heating.

   FFA activities: State Convention, National Convention, Ag Mechanics.

   Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: National Convention, winning District Ag Mechanics as a team and individually.

   Future plans: Plumbing/HVAC.
