Monticello had a rare occurrence of back-to-back girls soccer matches last week, playing Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, May 13-14, both at Dean Nelson Field.

The Panthers (1-9) came out on the short end of both, losing 5-0 to Cedar Valley Christian Friday and falling 4-0 to Tipton Saturday.

CVC scored two goals in the first half and three more in the second half of Friday’s match.

“The match started out fairly even with both defenses playing well,” Monticello coach Bruce Feuling said.

Becky Lang recorded 24 saves as the Monticello goalkeeper. The Panthers had four shots on goal, including one each by Kila Bartels, Issabella Mullen, Gracie Henderson and Mia Jaeger.

It was also Senior Night, and the Panthers honored Gracie Tuel, Trista DeShaw, Hailey Wilson, Jayme Patterson, Bartels and Henderson for their years of commitment to the program.

The Saturday match was a makeup from an earlier postponement. The Tipton scored two goals in each half for the four-goal victory.

“This was another competitive match for us, but we ended up on the losing end,” coach Feuling said.

Abagail Anders made 17 saves in goal. Shots on goal were made by Mya Postel, Brea Bauer and Wilson.
