David "Dave" Nicholas Klein Nov. 27, 1959 - June 18, 2025

David “Dave” Nicholas Klein, 65, of Hale, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 18, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by his loving wife, Lisa, and son, Jason.

Dave was born on Nov. 27, 1959, in Monticello, Iowa. He was raised by his mother, Mildred “Millie” (Brokaw) Markmann and stepfather, Carl. He graduated from Olin High School, class of 1978. After building a life together for many years, Dave and Lisa were married July 25, 2011.

For more than three decades, Dave was a loyal and dedicated employee at STAR (Cornerstone Buildings) in Monticello, where he served as a supervisor, overseeing numerous departments throughout the years, reaching retirement in 2024.

Dave loved the outdoors. He enjoyed being on the Wapsi or Mississippi rivers, camping, fishing and going for rides in the Polaris side-by-side. He enjoyed sitting on the patio, having a bonfire and relaxing. He took great pride in improving the home he built from the ground up, and maintaining his yard was truly a labor of love.

Over the years, Dave developed many hobbies, including smoking and processing meat, and he held a special affection for the animals that were a part of his life. Above all, he was a man who appreciated life’s simple pleasures.

Dave was a proud husband, father and grandfather, “Papa Dave”, who treasured the time spent with his grandchildren, Madison and Stanley.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Klein of Hale; two sons, Jason Klein (Laura Carlson) of Granger and Nick Klein of Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Madison and Stanley. He also leaves behind two sisters, Cindy Rummel of Cedar Rapids, and Penny (Jerry) Carrington of Ankeny; two brothers, Steve (Laurie) Klein of Olin, and Jay (Kim) Markmann of Hale; and his step-father, Carl Markmann of Hale.

He was preceded in death by his mother and birth father.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughs, and memories of a life well lived.
