Different courses of action taken on county nuisances
During the June 27 Jones County Supervisors meeting, the board reviewed and took action on three Land Use nuisances.
The owners of the property located at 8478 Slide Rock Rd., Anamosa, received an official notice on May 23 with a 30-day notice. The board voted to abate the nuisance, feeling it had been properly cleaned up.
The owners of the property located at 10516 Main St., Center Junction, also received an official notice on May 23, with a 30-day notice. Land Use Administrator Sheralyn Schultz said the house itself cannot be seen due to the full trees in the yard.
"The 911 sign is even covered up."
County Auditor Whitney Hein, who spoke with the owner, said the owner has been unable to physically clean up the nuisance herself, and does not have family she can rely upon.
"She currently does not live there," shared Hein.
Members of the owner's extended family were present and noted the house is not livable due to a roof collapse.
The board set a public hearing to meet with the owner for July 18 at 9:15 a.m.
The owner of property located at 10657 Main St., Center Junction, Jerry Willcoxson, was present to offer an update on her nuisance. She received a 21-day extension to abate on June 6.
"She's done a lot of work, but there's a lot to go," commented Schultz.
During the June 6 board meeting, the board said they would mail Willcoxson a list of items that needed to be addressed. She claimed she never received the letter that Schultz clarified was mailed on June 9.
"I've done everything on the original list," she said. "Everything's been removed."
The vehicle that is sitting out, she added, is licensed.
The board gave Willcoxson until July 11 (two weeks) to abate. Supervisor Jon Zirkelbach said he would review the property before that date.
"I don't understand why we're still dealing with this," said Willcoxson.
