Joan Dudley was born July 14, 1943 in Independence, Iowa. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Washington High School in 1961. She married Daniel Dailey July 22, 1962. Joan was employed by the Monticello School District in various roles from teacher's aide to school secretary for over 30 years. Joan and Dan were active in the community and were co-founders of the Monticello Booster Club. The baseball field at the Sports Complex is named in Joan and Dan's honor. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Joan loved crocheting baby blankets and giving them to any new baby and family. These special gifts are all over the country. Joan was known as the baby whisperer. If there was a baby in the room, it was only a matter of time before she was holding and rocking it.
Those left to cherish Joan's love include her husband of 60 years, Dan of Monticello, children Dr. Scott (Julie) Dailey of North Liberty, Vicki (John) Giegerich, of Elko, Minn., her grandchildren, Kate (Andrew), Kira (Ryan), Ethan, Eryn, Elli, Tyler (Cortney), Trey, and Jaecy and great-grandchildren, Bentley, Aria and Emery; her brother Larry (Barb) Dudley of Shell Knob Mo., brothers-in-law Lance Dailey, Bari (Karen) Dailey, Ed (Marty) Dailey, sister-in-law Linda Dailey, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Ona Dudley and a brother, Warner Dudley.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the very caring staff of Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Above and Beyond Hospice for the excellent care they provided. The staff are considered family.
