John (Johnny) Jones

      John (Johnny) Jones, age 89, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation after a brief illness. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa with interment in Prairie Hill Cemetery, rural Monticello, with Military Honors. Friends called at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, has taken John and his family into their care.

    Surviving is his wife, Donna; four children, Karen (Craig) Batcheler, Kristi (Jeff) Fortune, Greg Jones, and Mark (Kay) Jones; and his sister, Katheryn.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Betty, Pauline, Don, Robert, Dick and Russell.

    John Wilbur Jones was born May 25, 1934, in Delaware County, Iowa.  He was the son of Edwin and Gertrude Richmond, Jones. John graduated from the Hopkinton schools in 1953. He went on to serve in the United States Army.  He returned home and went to work at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.  He married Donna Hasler on Sept. 6, 1959, at S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello.   John started farming with his father-in-law, Fred Hasler, in 1960 and eventually took over the complete farming operation.  He retired from farming in 2000.

    In his youth John enjoyed playing baseball and softball. After he retired, he liked to do woodworking.
